DWAYNE BUTOH MASTERCLASS

The 1-Day Butoh for Actors Workshop with Dwayne Lawler is an intensive, non-verbal training experience designed to help actors and performers cultivate presence through Butoh techniques. Using imagery, visualisation, and choreographed improvisation, participants will explore how to remain grounded and fully engaged in the moment, enhancing physical, sensory, and spatial awareness. The workshop focuses on intentional movement, energy control, and the ability to “turn presence on and off,” offering tools to improve focus, embody stillness, and connect fluidly with space, props, and others. Open to actors and anyone interested in Butoh, no preparation or script work is required.

JEREMY SIMS MASTERCLASS

Sydney Acting Studio welcomes renowned Actor and Director Jeremy Sims to the Studio for a Masterclass.

In 2006, Jeremy produced and directed Last Train to Freo. The film received 3 AFI Award nominations, including Best Actor. In 2010 his second feature, the WW1 epic Beneath Hill 60 was nominated for 12 AFI Awards, 5 IF Awards and 8 FCCA Awards, including Best Director and Best Film across all three awards.

2014's Last Cab to Darwin, which he co-wrote, was a financial and critical hit. It received 13 AACTA (AFI) award nominations, with Michael Caton winning Best Actor. Jeremy's last film Rams, starring Sam Neil, Michael Caton, and Miranda Richardson, was released in 2020 and has since become a worldwide hit.

With over 30 years of industry experience, David has dedicated the last 22 years to casting, including 7 years with Christine King Casting. His career evolved from handling numerous commercial projects to contributing to major feature films and long-form dramas in Australia. In 2010, he co-founded McSweeney Newman Casting with Tom McSweeney.

Noteworthy recent projects include "NAUTILUS" (late 2023 release) and "THE BLUE" (2023 release), as well as involvement in productions like "DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD," "LOVE & MONSTERS," "BLACKLIGHT" (featuring Liam Neeson), and series such as "THE FAMILY LAW," "THE END," "ROCK ISLAND MYSTERIES," "THE BUREAU OF MAGICAL THINGS," "MAKO MERMAIDS," "RED DOG," and "EAST WEST 101."

David's expertise extends to his 15-month role as the Australian Casting Associate on "THE PACIFIC" (produced by Stephen Spielberg and Tom Hanks for HBO), where he conducted over 3000 auditions, considering it his 'degree in casting.' He served as the President of the Casting Guild of Australia from 2020 to 2022, representing his peers with honour.

Sydney Acting Studio is thrilled to welcome back Amber Mosdell from Peta Einberg Casting for an exclusive Masterclass.

Amber, a Goldsmiths University, London graduate in 2002 with a Masters in Television, began her casting career at Maizels Casting in Sydney in 2003. She has since worked on notable TV and film projects, including All Saints, Packed to the Rafters, A Place to Call Home, The Kettering Incident, and Doctor Doctor. Alongside TV production, Amber has contributed to the Fine Arts Acting – Graduation Showreel for NIDA and taught Speech & Drama at The Drama Studio at MLC. In the realm of TV commercials, she's been a consistent presence at Peta Einberg Casting, collaborating with major brands and agencies like Clemenger BBDO, M&C Saatchi, Leo Burnett, The Monkeys, and Special Group, working with production companies such as Finch GoodOil, Rabbit, and Revolver Films. Brands range from Aldi to Zyrtec.

Upon confirming your reservation, participants will promptly receive two television commercial scripts to review and prepare in advance. Additionally, Amber will be leading an insightful Q&A session, offering valuable insights on optimizing your preparation for a TVC audition.
