Dave Newman, one of Australia’s most experienced Casting Directors, joins Sydney Acting Studio following his recent work on the Prime Video production Bloodaxe. With over 30 years in the industry, including 22 years in casting, Dave brings a wealth of insight into what casting teams are responding to in today’s landscape. As actors, we often spend years developing text analysis and emotional understanding, but movement training can be the missing link that fully frees instinct, presence and transformation within performance. This masterclass introduces actors to developmental movement, Laban principles and somatic approaches designed to expand physical awareness, break habitual patterns and deepen embodiment. Actors will work through Feet First Collective’s signature movement warm up before applying the process directly to character and text exploration. Faith began her career in casting for television before founding Martin Artists, representing some of Australia’s most celebrated performers including Geoffrey Rush, Wendy Hughes, John Meillon, Sam Neill, and Mel Gibson. Her extensive career spans both Australian and international film and television, with casting credits including The Crossing (dir. George Ogilvie), Strictly Ballroom (dir. Baz Luhrmann), The Sum of Us (dir. Geoff Burton & Kevin Darling), Spartacus (produced by Rob Tapert), Ash vs Evil Dead, Carlotta, Better Watch Out, Infini, Healing, and Gabriel.
Faith has also collaborated with leading UK and US casting teams on projects such as A Cabin in the Woods, Black, Outlander, and Rectify, and most recently served as Casting Director on the Stan series Spartacus: House of Ashur.
